My minors are psychology, human development, and special education, which influence my potential pathways and experiences by creating a strong foundation in various psychological and developmental theories while also providing the opportunity to learn transferable skills such as collaboration, communication, and critical thinking.
Psychology | While in the psychology department I have learned about various types of therapies, mental disorders, child development, and how the brain interacts with behavior. In the Human services field there are many options that fall under psychology, such as psychologist, school counselor, social work, ect. |
Special Education | Special education has taught me, modification, accommodations that happen to school curriculum to help children learn better, as well as the classifications of disabilities under federal legislation. Overall this minor gives me a better understanding of people and behavior motivations. It has also taught me better teaching methods which can be applied to various occupations. |
Human Development | Human development focuses on patterns and trends for virus groups of people, we look at how people interact with different aspects of life such as family, school, and the environment. This helps us gain a deeper understanding of people which is valuable when working with all types of people. |

I joined the Integrated Studies major after they implemented the change in minor requirements. As a result, I only have one minor, that being Exercise and Sports Science. I believe this to be a very beneficial major in the Human Services field, particularly that of personal training and coaching. The knowledge of the human body and the science of exercise makes me apt in those job fields, as well as understanding the ins and outs of the careers in that field. I will be able to improve the quality of life for any of my clients I come in contact with.
